Galway singer/composer is “ Theatrical on the shell, intricate at the core” (New York Times, 2012)
Ahead of the Spring release of Julie Feeney's eagerly anticipated third album, the dramatic, flamboyant Irish star and prodigious singer, conductor, and producer is set to return to New York to perform for 1 night only at the Highline Ballroom on October 24th after her recent 10-Night sell-out New York run at IAC.
Winner of the Choice Music Prize (Ireland’s equivalent of the Mercury Prize) Feeney made her New York debut at Joe’s Pub in 2011 and since then she has quickly amassed critical acclaim for her uncompromising sound that both Village Voice and Time Out New York called “captivating,” drawing comparisons to everyone from Sufjan Stevens, Leonard Cohen and Elvis Costello to Lady Gaga and Bjork. A New York Times' stellar review in April 2012 said of her “…a brainy adventurous songwriter lives within the flamboyant theatricality…with songs that set character studies and philosophical musings in elaborate musical confections..."
Feeney’s music, melding elements of Laurie Anderson, Beethoven, David Bowie, Perotin and June Tabor, is complemented by an ethereal stage show that features outrageous fashion and unconventional instrumentation arranged by Feeney. The highly distinguished Feeney has been called "charming, urbane and dreamy" by the New York Times, "the Emerald Isle's Original" by the Washington Post and "an eccentric pop genius" by Hot Press.
Feeney will be joined by a small orchestra of strings, singers, recorders, sticks, guitar, keyboards, and trumpet.
